... dalecosp gets broadband to his chicken shack! 😃

After many years of annoying dial-up service, interrupted by the destructive actions of moles chewing TelCo cables and cows bumping against the pedestal, an ISP who doesn't know reverse DNS from a (mole?) hole in the ground and insists on using M$ products for gateways, DNS servers, routers. etc0, etc .... I now have a wireless broadband connection to the WAN at large, and you can probably expect the EL's S/N ratio to move farther toward "N" as the quantity of my frivolous drivel increases by at least a twofold* $var ... (that is, as long as said bovines don't stand in the radio LOS path...)

In accordance with Glyn Davies "Pendulum Meta-Theory" (for the economists amongst us) and probably some part of Lenin's "Summary of Dialectics" (whatever that may be), and several other theorems which Weedpacket could enlighten us about if he were to so choose, we can be fairly certain that my post quality will take a nose-dive if the quantity goes upwards....

*Hmm, initial run of portupgrade -arR --fetch-only (for you BSD freaks ... nah, forget it, I'm the only one except maybe Goldbug) actually shows a fivefold speed gain....MTF...

It is okay, your dumbest post is better then a post asking for a PHP developer to develop something for them without pay.

I personally don't think i could go on living without my broadband connection. I might as well be wired to the internet.

hehe, I surely do... even tho my old update cron jobs packaged cvsup with portupgrade and a custom auto-build for AMP as needed, so I never really typed it after say 2003.... but lately I'm using SoftwareUpdate -a instead 😃....as I've decommissioned my vanilla FBSD machines :bemused:

Well, just about 3-4 air miles from a city of 1,000; 11-12 by road to cities of 6,000 and 12,000 or so, which are the major markets for my services. Thing is, no one else lives anywhere in this mile of road, so the TelCo has us at the end of their "loop", and you've got to be within X feet of their central office for DSL ...

As for photos, none available of the entire abode, but IIRC I posted some office interior photos in the "Show Us Your Workspace" thread; don't recall seeing yours, there, tho' ....

I've just moved into my parent's barn and therefore have no internet connection at all (my dad won't let me use his computer, I'm guessing he'd be embaressed if I found his porn collection 😉). Just got a wireless router and it's all in and working, just need the bloody broadband to come through now.

Well, you have my sympathy, but I can't help out much; IIRC, you're on the "other side of the pond", and I'm sure that this radio packet stuff can't reach that far.... :eek:
