[Resolved] tiff to pdf

I'm totally lost and I hope someone here can help me.

I need to upload a tiff and turn it into a pdf. Now I have no problem uploading files. The problem is turning the tiff into a pdf. I have no clue how to go about doing that. Can someone help?

See [man]pdf_open_image_file[/man]. TIFF is listed as a possible format. Note that you need PECL (formerly known as PDFlib) in your PHP setup to do this; YMMV as a result.

If you are on a *nix host, there should be tiff2ps and then ps2pdf - maybe a few versions of ps2pdf for different pdf formats (pdf1.2, 1.3)

I'm working on getting these functions enabled. However the outrageous price tag makes it unllikely.

The tiff2ps and then ps2pdf doesn't really work either. It generates PDFs that are 2-5 times bigger than they should be.

I am also trying ImageMagic, but it seems to have the same bloated PDF problem as tiff2ps and ps2pdf has.

I was looking into Perl using their PDF::API2 module but it doesn't seem to like the multipage tiffs I'm feeding it.

Any other ideas?

Well, I decided to quit paying for software some time ago. AFAICT, it's cd /usr/ports/print/pdflib && make install clean from here...

I do note that this, and pecl-pdflib, seem to be a "lite" version on FreeBSD, so I don't know if they give great results, or not. So, other than trolling at you ("change operating systems, friend!"), which really does no good, most likely; I'll just have to wish you good luck and good hunting; I'm short of cash, myself....

My final solution was to dump PHP for this project. I found a script on the net to split the mult-page tiffs and PDF::API2 handles the rest. It is very nice except it isn't PHP 🙁

Well, I think in computer programming and business and all, we can occasionally afford to be pragmatic. That's what PHP is, for me.
