Quite possibly. Without knowing some details like OS, MTA, etc. I couldn't say. Furthermore, if this is a hosting service, they may not have given you the privilege of using mail(), but, hmm, I guess we wish they would, eh?
You might try adding a "Errors-to: me@mydomain.com" header as the fourth parameter to the mail call (test) above and see if anything happens. But it looks kinda doubtful.
I guess one other option, more difficult than PEAR (oh, and BTW, one of the board regular characters says that PHP really means "People Hate PERL" 😃 ) would be to attempt some direct socket programming ...
