Help needed, php programers wanted to help build a new dedicated PHP site/comunity!

This post is rather spammy, (not to mention in direct competition with PHPBuilder) but since you specify that it is a volunteer position, it's okay. In the future it might behoove you to become an active participant in the forum and add your link to your sig instead of blatantly spamming on your first post... you might get a better result. Hi all,

I need your help on a large project that will realy help new and existing php programers. I need help to start the forum and volunteers to sign up to become site authors, this will mean you can submit site content for moderation!

The site launched about 24 hours ago and has already been met with acceptance from the programing comunity. I ask that you join the site and then see what you can do to help!

On top of that we are giving away >15gb of web hosting of all different size packages to >200 people. This is just a small insentive to take part on the site!

I'd write a lengthy reply about the ridiculousness of the OP's site. But given that I doubt they'll return to read it, I'll summarize.

Man, I hadn't even looked at the site. That top banner looks like a homework project quickly put together.

And, can you say hypocrite?

However, there are a couple of conditions:
1. You must have a positive reputation >10% of the target you are aiming for. So for every 10 posts +1 rep
2. You must not spam the forum.
3. Your posts must be on topic.
4. You must not abuse the site/forum or staff!
5. You must send "Mike" a personal message on the forum when you want to claim the hosting deal at the level you are at!

Anyway, my eyes hurt now.

Normally, superglobal variables ($POST, $FILES, $GET, $COOKIES, $SERVER, e.t.c) are not available in a class. You can set them up using a constuctor function. This is a function which is called every time the class is setup, and has the same name as the class

I appreciate that your site is just starting out but the tutorial which the above quote was taken from is really just misinformation. The tutorial should be removed.

While I am all for advancing the PHP community I think you should look to offer something different rather than being 'just another PHP site'.

As for spamming this forum, well i am sorry! I just realy need people to look at the site for what it is and not to just judge it by my crappy art at the top of the page. I do php, not photoshop.

I hope that you will be willing to just give me a chance and see what you can do to help out the site.

So i challange you: Join the site and learn my true personality :p

I must admit that i do need some help to make it sucessful and also need some more content but we are gaining members and content daily.

If you want a site to look professional, you must be sure you spell correctly. Sure, we're human, and we make misteaks 😉, but come on, take a little time to spell-check. "Realy" is spelled "really," and "dynamicly" is spelled "dynamically."

Get rid of the ads for now. If it's a new site, and you're trying to attract new members, then you aren't going to get the click-throughs your advertisers will be looking for -- at least not right away. There are only two reasons to have ads -- you are getting VERY good money to support your site from the advertisers (not likely with a new site), or your service provider requires them. If the latter is true, get a new provider. You can find one for less than 10 bucks per month, with no advertisers.

Minimize you graphics. You don't need photoshop skills -- use the right colors and typefaces, and you can put together a very good looking site without many graphics at all.

Thanks for most of your advise - i will take it into account. Though i must say that the above quote did stand out to me! I have a few ads in rotation and they are all there for different reasons.

The main one is the hosting banner - that is not my webhost but i give them a lot of page impressions each month so that they will host all our downloads for us and act as a mirror. The deal i have with them is 2gb storage and 100-200gb bandwidth/transfer a month.

I must also say somthing else to all those that thing the site is not for them: This is your opportunity to help out the next generation of php programers.

Well, I feel like i am fighting an uphill battle and it is getting me down slightly. Although i will not give up! I will keep trying to make the site a sucess by listening to peoples <USEFUL> coments about the site!

I am already trying to help the next generation...not that I'm some mega-expert or anything. I'll have a monthly article on this very site dedicated to newbies getting started beginning this coming week.
