Closing current page and opening another

I have, after trawling the web for days, finally got my electronic registration page working.

This allows people to enter their details, and then once the form has been validated, copies all the information into a MySQL database. At the moment, once this is complete I show, on the same page, a message saying data entry was successful. What I would like to do is:

1. Close the form page.
2. Open up a separate confirmation page, showing the details they have just added.

Showing the details is something I can easily do... but Ican't seem to find how to close/open webpages using PHP....

php is a server-side programming language and therefore knows nothing about browser windows.

the functionality you are looking for is available using javascript.

If you want to pop up a confirmation window (which I find kinda nice), google on the following javascript functions:

window.open()
window.opener.location.reload()
window.close()

You could also play around with this:

window.location.href = 'yourfile.php';

There, that's all I know about javascript, lol.

Why not just use header() after you've submitted the information to direct them to the page you want?
