image with latest date in name to be displayed?

Hi,

I'm new here. Been posting mostly on swedish coding-forums but I figured an international forum with more users would get me faster answers!

I have a number of files called:
whatever.com-20050427.jpg
whatever.com-20050429.jpg
yahoo.com-20050426.jpg
yahoo.com-20050427.jpg
and so on.

I want a code which shows the file with the latest date in the filename and a specific domain in it. (Right now I'm just chaning the code every now and then to update.. And if there is no file at the latest date it of course doesn't show anything)

$img_path = "thumbs/" . $myrow[1] . "-20050429".".jpg";
if (file_exists($img_path)) {
$img_path="$img_path $img_size border=0";}

Please help me!

Well, what do you need? No one's likely to give you the whole thing for free ... get a start and someone will certainly be willing to help.

My take: the latest date will always be the highest number. Start with an arbitrary number, loop, and compare .... probably need to substitute in a variable that has been ereg'ed or somesuch.

Or: read all filenames into an array, sort it, and show the last.

The drawbacks: both of 'em seem kinda resource intensive. Maybe some guru has a better plan....

Oh, and welcome, BTW; not trying to be inhospitable, and you're right; with people up at different hours all over the globe, you may get faster help.

Since the file with the highest number would also be the file with the latest modification time it would probably be best to use filemtime?

Well, it's a possibility that one shouldn't discount, I guess. Might depend on the OS or if any other processes or operations (backups?) end up touching the file and changing that number on the filesystem.

Can't say for sure. 🙁
