Backup database to zip file?

Please help me how to make a zip file from a folder, for instance i want to make folder named db1 become db1.zip????Please....thanx all!

within PHP, or from the shell?

From the shell you just do:

zip archivename db

From within PHP you'd do almost the same thing:

chdir('directory above the d directory here");
zip archivename db;
