[Resolved] Users Online?

I'm currently writing a CMS/Users Script and im using sessions, But ive came accross a slight problem... And thats to tell if a user is online? Or even show a list of users that are online!

I sorta know what I need to do, And that is when someone logs in, It stores their name and the time when they logged in, in a mysql table. And everytime they goto a different page it updates the time on the mysql table...

But im having my doubts, Like what if the session expires? How will the script know to take the user of the table?

PS: Shall I just not use sessions at all? And try some other way? Like storing sessions on a mysql table... Oh i just dont know 🙁

No, you've got the idea. Use the sessions. You could always set up a function to check if the Session is still active. Call that on all your pages. If it is active, update/insert them into the database. If it's non-existant, remove them.

Or, you can automatically remove them after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Or, you can just add a column to your user database with login_time. Then keep checking that time. Only grab the users that are logged in within 5/10/15 minutes.

Most ways I see is to store the last time of action in the users database. Then just grab only the users active within the last 5 or 10 minutes.

okay, Ill experiment with it now, And if I get it working ill post the code to share with others, And thanks for your help btw 🙂
