This ponts up one of the reasons I like Linux so much. It isn't AN OS, it's an ecosystem of OSes. As long as some group of people are willing to toss together a distro to meet their own needs, there will be enough diversity to make sure there is a distro that fits my needs.
The downside, of course, is separating the wheat from the chaff. If there's 3,000 distros to choose from, I can't possibly try them all, so I'm gonna have to research the best choices and test a half dozen or so, and make up my mind.
But at least I get to make up my mind with linux...
