New to php, mysql etc.

I would like to create a forum for an online community, though I have had no success with the php or mysql portions. I am running Mandrake 10.1 community on a P3 550 Mhz, 128 megs RAM, just to give you an idea of what environment it is running in. I am not new to linux, but I have no experience whatsoever with php/mysql, or databases in general. I was wondering if anyone could maybe give a how-to? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

If would suggest using one of the free forums packages rather than making you own.
