Java question (set field to READONLY)

Sorry for the Java question, but was hoping someone here would know? (This is my favorite forum)

Can you set the readonly property of a text field? I do not know the syntax, but something like

document.form.textfield.readonly

Any ideas?

That's javascript. Java is a whole different beast.
