Need help with a website.

I just got a new server and I want to set up a site where people can host lots of things and create a profile. Now this is what I need help with... I dont know PHP at all and I tried learning it and it just isnt working out. I would like to try again, seeing I want to be a web master, but I dont have the time because my family is really busy with 3 weddings and 2 vacations. I have taken about 1 and a half months on learning it and got no where. I need some one to make some things for my site. You dont need to do this all from scratch. The graphic design of the site is already done with so you dont need to do that. There are lots of scripts on the Hot Scripts website, and other websites, so you can download those and just tweak them then put the required HTML in there. I dont know exactly how to do that... The things I want are pretty simple so it wont take much time at all.

All of these services will be given free on my website with unlimited web space and bandwith for each account. Because of this I would like it if some one would do this for me for free. What I want:

1) Log in system that works with the picture uploader and file uploader part of the site.

2) A picture uploading system exactly like photo bucket. Pictures will show up in thumbnail mode and have the link to the picture under it so you can just copy and paste it into any profile, forum, etc, just like photo bucket.

3) A file uploading system exactly like the picture uploading one but uploads anything but picture files, AVI, MPG (MPEG), MOV, and other video formats. The idea I had before was to just offer FTP folder access for each user but I really dont want to do that.

Both the file and picture uploader should upload files to that users folders but inside the users main folder will be a "files" and "pictures" folder where the separate files from the different systems will go.

4) A Downloads system where I (and only me) can log in then upload files and create a description for each file. There will be a main page with an alphabetical file listing system. My site has a layout example already...

Three weddings and two vacations. Here's a tip: Purchase a few books, or download some e-Books. Read them. Visit PHP.net regularly for reference. Learn PHP. Try some examples, get what you want. When you get stuck, ask for help. I don't feel that anyone here is really up to doing all this for you, when there's no compensation. We'd love to help you when you get stuck, but we're not going to do your work for. We are here to help, not give answers.

This forum exists to help you with your programming. If you're not interested in doing any programming, then this is the wrong forum for you. "Help" does not mean "Solve my problem for me". It means "Help me solve my problem". There is a difference.

Well, to be fair to Jaquio, he/she never said there would be no compensation. The problem, Jaquio, is that if you aren't planning to compensate accordingly, then you won't get what you want; and if you are compensating, then your post wouldn't belong here, since there are no job postings allowed. It's a Catch-22.

Either way, good luck Jaquio. (What you are asking for can be easily accomplished by sticking your head in the manuals and these forums for a couple of weeks.

If you are absolutely for getting someone else to do this for you, then maybe consider posting at rentacoder.com or somewhere like that. They underbid all of the time, so you could probably get the work done pretty cheaply there.

And the irony of all this is most of the people here always look for free stuff themselves like PHP, MySQL, Linux, Editors, and so on...

As helpful as the above posts are why don't you try a Content Management System such as e107, I have been trying to find a CMS that does the job I want it to for a while and e107 did come extremely close. Although now I have the ability to create my own scripts 😉

I strongly suggest you learn PHP. I put it off for 8 or so months, best just to get out there and learn it.

I found this CMS tutorial helped me bust my cherry with PHP 😃 it throws you in the deep end quickly. So I hope your a good swimmer!

Book wise, I wouldn't go past Larry Ullmans PHP for the World Wide Web 2nd Edition!

If yah couldn't be stuffed, just use the CMS e107, it should do all the jobs you want it to do!
