Buy things online

To cut to the chase, anyone know how to do this really simply without something like PayPal?

To break things down, here's what's going on:

Above ground pool site.

Obviously they'll only be purchasing one, so there's no need for a shopping cart or anything fancy.

I can work out how it all interlocks later, but basically I want this:

A page with the picture, info, yada yada on it. If they want it, they click the "buy" button. They enter their name, shipping address, etc, and credit card number.

So:

First, I need to figure out how to validate credit cards.

Second, I need to know how to charge the credit card to some account. (This is the doozy.)

Third, I need to figure out how to calculate shipping by using a zipcode. (I'll need UPS/FedEx/Whoever's info for this. Hopefully it won't be much of a problem.)

That said, is there an easy way to do this? A nice simply class/program somewhere? Anything?

I'd recommend going with a shopping cart. You may not need all of the cart's features, but those you could strip out (or not present to the user). Then you'd get all the benefits of error checking and card processing you need without having to re-invent the wheel and end up with a flat tire. (Take a look into Zen Cart

Stick to paypal. If you do the credit cards yourself then you have to worry about lots of security, including Visa CISP. It's simply not worth the hassle.

As far as a cart goes oscommerce is popular, though I didn't care for it myself.

hmm.. well, like I said, a shopping cart would be a bit much. It'd take a lot of work to take out the parts I need. I'll take a look at zen cart, though.

The only way I might use it is just to rip the credit card part. That's pretty much all I need.

It'd be different if there were a lot of products and such.

actually, I think zen cart will work. It'll take a bit to get it like I want, but I think it'll be better than doing it from scratch.
