Changing hosts, my prior host had php 4.3.8 and the new one will have 4.3.2 Is there really much difference?

The new host has an antiquated phpmyadmin 2.5.5. The earliest I've used is 2.5.6. Will the 2.5.5 still do datadumps? (though may may not reinstall dumps so easily as the new versions, I know)

I'm doing this to get mysql 4.1.10a/greatly improved stats/payment processing/ more dependable, better uptime/ support/own, operate own datacenter w/backup generators onsite, just a much better host overall. I have queries that need to be run w/4.1.1

    Is there really much difference?

Not from a programmer's perspective. But if you want to know what changed you can always view the changelog.

The earliest I've used is 2.5.6. Will the 2.5.5 still do datadumps?

Almost certainly. But if you want to know what changed from 2.5.5 to 2.5.6 you can always view the changelog.

      According to phpmyadmin (re: 2.5.6):

      " phpMyAdmin's support for MySQL 4.1 / 5.0 is still experimental "

Can it be used for 4.1.10a?

Maybe this is why the host still uses the old 2.5.5

It was experimental in 2.5.5 as well. 2.5.7 too for that matter. Didn't stop being experimental until 2.6.0.

Doesn't mean you can't use it of course. Just means if all of your data gets wiped out in some freak accident you can't complain. 🙂 If your webhost is using 2.5.5 with mysql 4.1.10 then I imagine they are confident that they work well together. You might inquire with them if you're worried.

Why are they so far behind? If they're that quick to upgrade MySQL, why are they lagging behind with PHP?

Don't know, maybe that's the most stable with their setup.
            -Plesk control panel?

I asked them this today but no satisfactory answer besides..."once we've fully tested it and are satisfied that it works without bugs with everything else, we'll roll it out. But no eta."

I've had an incredible time finding a decent shared host that offers 4.1.1 with other features I need (open wildcard permissions, authorize.net, and other points) I'm tired of looking. I've had six or seven hosts.
