Query 2 tables

i have problem in query. This query should display only members that is not a part of another table
how can i query 2 tables in relationship?

table 1 (member)

id name
1 first
2 second
3 third
4 forth
5 fifth
6 sixth
7 seven
8 eight

table 2 (partof)

id memberid
1 3
2 4
3 7

the result should be
first
second
forth
fifth
sixth
eight

if I understand correctly you want to select every member from table1 that IS NOT listed in table 2. In that case:

SELECT * from table1 WHERE table1.id != table2.memberid
