disable xml

Does anybody know off the top of their head know to disable PHP's xml processing? I'm testing a server side xml setup via Tomcat and Cocoon and I want to make sure that xml processing isn't being processed by PHP.

As far as I can tell, PHP doesnt specifically process XML unless you use the relevant functionality.

However, XML opening tags would be interpreted as PHP's opening tags if short_open_tag is On, so it is usually a good idea to set short_open_tag to Off, but that also means the lazy <?=expression?> shortcut would not work.

Well, according to this document, xml processing is automatically enabled. You have to disable it with a --disable-xml switch. I'm not sure if you do that when starting the app or when you are compiling it.

Looking at phpinfo(), I see that xml is enabled. I need to figure out how to disable it, so I can test my java-tomcat-cocoon implementation. Any ideas would be helpful...

My understanding is that that is a compile time switch (or rather a pre-compile time one, with configure or something).

Ok, I'm missing something here. How can XML be supported, but not processed? I'm kind of drawing a blank here...

I did make that change to the php.ini file, so as to avoid any hassles with the tags. I never use shortened php tags, but better safe than sorry. Thanks for the advice.

After going back in my ancient notes, I found that the --disable-xml switch goes back to the configure, before the make and make install. There's also some sort of other xml switch I think I need to disable as well.

Nothing like wasting a few hours getting a good compile to put you in a good mood... :glare:

How can XML be supported, but not processed?

i.e. any XML document is just text, until it is processed with a parser, then it is treated as a special kind of text.
The XML support enabled is the support for XML parsers, with the various functions and interfaces that come with it.
