Hello,

This is regarding functioning of mail / sendmail in PHP.

1. In Windows, PHP can talk directly to the Mail Transport Agent (MTA) using the SMTP (if it doesn't find the sendmail wrapper)

2. But in Unix, PHP can not talk directly to the MTA using SMTP.

I am confused in this. May be I am talking words as it is.

My confusion is that ... sendmail is a type of MTA and as stated in point 2 above, php can't talk to MTA (i.e. sendmail) directly using SMTP .... what does the term DIRECTLY mean ??

we write php script (i.e. Mail User Agent) and it calls sendmail (i.e. MTA) for sending mails.

what does directly mean here ??
