Problem with include()

Good day,
I am trying to put some site wide files such as my MySQL server host, username and password in a safe place. My site root is /var/www/html and so I created a folder /var/www/include and placed the files there. I edited my php.ini include_path=".:/var/www/include" and restarted the web server. But it is not working. Am I doing something worg? Any suggestions please.

What do you mean "it is not working" ? What error messages do you get when trying to include a file?

It is not giving a message. It it just not getting the values from the file.
