i think the only way would be to check what is actually passed in the url.
here is an example..


// page.php?something1
$arg = $_SERVER['QUERY_STRING']

switch($arg) {
  case "something1": myfunc1(); break;
  case "something2": myfunc2(); break;
  case "something3": myfunc3(); break;
  default: echo "oops bad argument";
}

From comments to php manual on functions:

PHP allows you to address
functions in a very dynamic way:
$foo = "bar";
$foo("fubar");

The above will call the bar function with the "fubar" argument.

Conclusion: you could start a function with index.php?name=fname&arg=argument and then try to call the function:

$_GET['name']($_GET['arg']);

I haven't done it myself, so I don't know if it'll work out. It feels a little unsecure anyway.

Now I have to defend myself 😉- I checked and it works.

test1.php

<?php
$_GET['name']($_GET['arg']);

function MyFunction($counter)
{
 echo "Counter: $counter";
}
?>

Calling http://localhost:8080/test1.php?name=phpinfo&arg=1 displays part of phpinfo() output.

Calling http://localhost:8080/test1.php?name=MyFunction&arg=123 displays "Counter: 123".

EDIT: And if you want to call it exactly like test1.php?MyFunction you can use this:

$keys = array_keys($_GET);
$keys[0]();

function MyFunction()
{
 echo "This is my function.";
}
?>

wilku, that is a cool feature of php and pretty handy, but i think it would be too much hassle to create a list of bad functions a user couldnt call like unlink, include, exec etc....i think they could even run php code that way.

Well i have ben looking for this since long time back... but i still didn't know how to use it. I need this in the language switch of my site... I will have my site translated into different languages and pages will be with the same names but in different folders... The english one will be in the root folder, the french will be in a folder named "fr" the german in "de" and so on...

Now all these pages are HTML.. i want to create a default PHP page for every link in my site that will replace the nglish files in the root and in the location bar if i type : "page.php?lan=english" it gets the files from the folder "en" and if it was ".page.php?lan=french" it gets the files from the folder "fr"

is this possible with the script u posted here?

and what if i want to create 2 variables... 1- Languae, 2- the view mood (either normal or printable version)

Hope someone can help me here 🙂

instead of a function, call the page you want to view.

For the printable version i dont know how, but thats more a template thing i think...😕

in that case it will be like this:


switch(strtolower($_GET['lang'])) {
  case "english": //include english page
    break;
  case "french": //include french page
    break;
  default: //include default language
}

as far as the mood thing, for normal or printable, ive seen some good scripts on hotscripts.com that let you place an html comment in side a page for print pages where it only uses the html between the tags. you may want to search around there. but then you could do something similar with page.php?lang=french&view=print

You can always create a list with function that are allowed. I think that isn't much work 😉

What will the "//include english page" part be replaced with, is it the URL of the page only, or the page's file name i mean ?

cuz i made this like

 case "english": english_page.html

It returns this error:
"Parse error: parse error in c:\apache\htdocs\website\test.php on line 4"

this line (4) included the part of script "break;" only.

Just another small question, can't i add the switch language link on the page anything that will add the variable (language) ID to the address,

i mean instead of writing the link as
page1.php?lang=english - on page 1
page2.php?lang=english - on page 2

can't i write the link in a way that will change the variable whatever the page was, so that i can copy and paste the drop down menu for the language switch link without having to change the linked 'value' part?

As far as I understood you right passing the lang value to next pages could look like:

echo "page1.php?lang=$_GET[lang]";

Is that what you asked for?

got one more question regarding my first post...

how does it work when the link is something like this:

page.php?id=$somevalue

now i want to call on a function (which is done like this):

function.php?dothis

but how do i insert the id variable now?

function.php?dothis&id=$somevalue

wont work...😕
