Small question (I couldn't find it with the search because I dunno the search key words 😃 )

But I have some images I want to display, but I don't want to show the URL where they are downloaded from if you right click on them.

Example >

http://www.site.com/uploads/username/picture.jpg

is the URL when you right click and show properties.

But on some sites you see

image.php?id=username/picture.jpg or with a id

image.php?id=1

Do they store them in a database ?
To me it looks like that way, but I am not sure 😃

Some store them in a database. I don't know why because:

• Databases are quick at finding information. Images are not information (you don't go searching on a chunk of binary data to retrieve a particular image)

• You're making a database work extra hard pulling back all the image data when the file system is specifically designed for this task (it'll even do caching).

What you CAN do is put the images in a non-web accessible directory. Then create a PHP script where your users can get to it. Then have the PHP script read the file contents of the target image and send them back to the browser, remembering to send the proper headers like content type and such back as well). A couple lines of code should do it (although I don't have immediately available the code for you).
