[Resolved] PHP Session Question

On a user's profile ( profile.php )

I wanted to echo a Message whenever they submitted a rating that says "Your Rating For username has been submitted."

Ok - ive done that .. Sucessfully!

the script i use to process the rate is called rate.php so what i did was setup a session varible in rate.php so that when the rate is submitted , it carrys the sessionn var $rate_message Which says "Your Rate for" . $rater_name . "Has been Submitted";

Then , the profile they are looking at ( profile.php ) reload's after the rate is processed by rate.php , and the message is displayed. Well thats all fine and dandy but when i goto another profile .. Guess whats thier? The Message that ive successfully rated the Last Membername i looked at lol.

So if i went to brians profile , it would still say " Youve successfully rated Steve". ... Thier's gotta be a way to display my rate message , But then clear it when i goto a New profile right?

Help me out guy's .. Im learning! and Making Progress!

is the $_SESSION['membersname'] showing in every profile after the FIRST profile you visit? or is it just one name behind?

P.S Why are you storing the username of the members profile you viewed in a session..? why not simply echo out the username of the members profile like..so maybe?

Sessions are BEST executed when transfering data across a site that doesn't change often, not what changes often

Make sure you note the missing quote in Tim's code:

$profile['member_name]

should be:

$profile['member_name']

That would be why the coloring goes haywire towards the end.

Ok but guys heres the problem ..

The profile is on profile.php

the script to process the rate is rate.php

then rate.php after the rate is processed returns you back to the members profile

So how would i echo somthing from rate.php? rate.php is never viewed .. its simply to process the rate.

After a member has been rated , im trying to display "Thank you .. Your rating for" . $member_name . " has been displayed";

add this in your url

profile.php?rate=yes

(?rate=yes)

this is a cheap way i know but lol....

I'll break it down incase your new, altho this is pretty simple code, infact when u get better u will most likely replace this.

we start off verifying the if the variable (passed in the url) is up... if it is continue on, if it isn't skip the code with in the {} ... okay we then echo' and display the code... 🙂

Is thier another way to do it? I really need the message to display on the profile rather then the user having to click a link to return to the profile

yeah here

profile.php?rate=yes

do the url thing...

basically it will say thanks for rating yadayada and display the profile below or what ever... but if it isn't in the url then it won't say thanks for rating yadayada
