[Resolved] Backslash characters and new lines == Lost

I have two PHP pages. One is collecting the information on a form, the other is displaying it before I'll upload it into the database.

I have three fields, and no matter how I encode the data and then decode it in the second page, every time I use ' ... or " - the second page returns this \' ... or \" - why?

Also - I have a multiline 'comments' box and now matter how I set this up, I can't seem to get line breaks ... multiple lines to come up in my second page. The line breaks are simply removed. How can I retain them?
