variables not passing between pages

I am modifying some scripts I have already written to port to a new site on a new machine.

However when passing variables appended to the URL between one page and another the variables are not recognised by the receiving page. (error is 'undefined variable')

This works fine on the old site but errors on the new installation.
Is this some sort of environmental setting in php.ini.

I think old site is PHP 4 and new site is PHP 5.

Any ideas what's wrong?

you need to reference these variables using $_GET.

example;

$uid = $_GET['uid'];

The best way would be to use code such as this:

$uid = (@$_GET['uid'] ? $_GET['uid'] : '');

that way you won't get "Undefined Variable" errors when it's not in the URL.

Before, it sounds like your old server had 'register_globals' set to On, which is a security risk. For more information about this security risk, you can search the board for 'register_globals' or 'register globals.'
