File Upload and Execute, Not Store?

Please be gentle with me. I am a Flash Actionscripter delving into PHP. I am working on developing Flash Interfaces on embedded systems using a LAMP setup.

One of the "components" of my interface requires the ability for a user to upload a file ( it will be about 40 Mbs) so they can update the system. But due to a lack of available disc space, I am not allowed to upload and leave the file in a directory but rather they want to immediately consume or execute the file.

Does that make sense? I am not even sure I understand but this is the request from the system's engineers.

And sorry if this went into the wrong post. Me dealing with PHP is like a turtle trying to brain surgery.

Well when using file uploads the file will need to be stored somewhere while its uploading however once the file has uploaded you can do things to it before it is removed from its temporary directory. With linux the file will be copied to /tmp directory normally.

Thanks for the reply. I think as soon as it hits the tmp directory it will have to get consumed then.
