Seriously, why would you try to push your community to an already existing community?

Guy: Yeah... I'm here to sell cars to your customers.
Salesman: Oh. Yes. Of course. Help yourself. Go ahead and park your cars on our lot, and talk to whomever you like. No... you don't have to pay us commission. Would you like a doughnut and some coffee while you are here?

Personally, I think this is the most obvious place to spam your own PHP Community Site. The people that post here are exactly who they want. Now in saying that, I doubt anyone would leave such a valuable place for a startup site.

Also, I think it is great that communities do network to make the PHP community stronger as a whole.

I am not related to that site, have not visited that site, nor have any PHP type community of my own. I just think it is a good idea for PHP sites to bond together when and where they can.

There certainly is...and if I joined every PHP community upstart that posted in here I would be member to thousands of them.

I do agree that sticking together with the community is a good plan overall, but if there is any one thing I've learned about the web is that if you expect to get something back you need to get involved with the other first. At the very minimum...it's one of the things that makes this all a humbling and 'democratic' experience at times...

Anyways, I did go over there - nothing of interest at least yet.

Spam being the key word. You can't expect spam to be welcomed.

Now networking is a completely seperate concept, and probably relies upon a mutual agreement between the networking parties.

But you also have to consider combination at some point as well. When you get big, you'll expect the same overlapping questions being asked within both communities. Making centralized solutions would just be the smart thing to do.

On top of that, I'd think that if you wanted to be taken seriously as a php community, you wouldn't just tack it onto the "War Gamers Network".

It takes time and effort to start a community. Most of the time it is a naive thing to do. But everyone learns, we've all been there. We are going to see a continuation of newbie’s coming in and asking the most basic of questions and posting about there creations. So what if they seem meager to you.

You have NO RIGHT to criticize, make fun of or insult in any way what someone is trying to do. Obviously the person is proud of their work. If there was only one resource then it would be like what many of you seem to disagree with, Monopolizing. There are always going to be plenty of resources and plenty of new people coming in with their grand ideas. You have no right to crush those ideas.

A lot of you people are bitchy and negative. Why? I can see you point; it is valid to a degree. You can't change human nature, so go with it. Rather than against it 😉

TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.

My naive idea has grown, it is still growing. I have a lot of work to do but the people are flocking to it.

Stick with your ideas, even if they take a while to be a success.

One would normally ask the administrators/leaders of the given community for permission first, and perhaps even come together in a network where the more established community can help the newer one.

I expect to be run over roughshod if I try to advertise (without the relevant permission) my own C/C++ community in cprogramming.com forums, in what appears to be an attempt to 'steal' users.
On the other hand, if my community dealt with some niche in C/C++ programming, or perhaps was bout some other language, or could somehow complement the existing community, then I could well be well received.

hey guys sry, haven't been here for a while. anyways i'm very sorry if posting it offeneded anyone and i can see how, i was also a lil tired.

I disagree. I have my own little community (10k hits/day and 800 registered members) and I have no problem with similar sites posting that they have a new community. I even give them advice if they ask. And it never hurt my numbers one bit. Granted they end up failing 99.9% of the time, but I give them credit for trying because I know how much work is involved to make an online community.

What I do not allow is the spamming of their site. And in spamming I mean constant posts in every forum trying to get people to come over.
