sendmail to 1000 recpts

I am trying to send an email to 971 recipients using the Bcc field in the headers.

If I use the email address 971 times, it sends fine.
However if I use the actual email addresses, no email is sent to anyone.

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
From: [email][e-mail][/email]
Bcc: [email][e-mail][/email], ... ,[e-mail],[e-mail],

is there some limit on the number of email addresses, string size, ect...

note: the php mail function returns true even when no emails are sent.

php only takes your message and formats it properly for your mail handler (sendmail, qmail, or the windows smtp server). perhaps its a limitation of one of those. Ive always just used loops sending one message per recipient followed by a short pause to let the mta do its work.

You may also want to consider sending 230 per hour as well (leaving room for normal emails), since sending over 250 per hour can easily get your server labeled as a spam server.

what i would suggest is create a dump database of the username or what ever and the e-mail address. then run a script, e-mail, delete the e-mail and loop it. then just refresh it every time it times out. that way no one gets the e-mail twice and everyones happy. Now how to do it i really have no idea. i just relayed that info. I saw that suggestion on another board.
