Formatting code

Hi,

Could someone take a look at this block of code:

echo "<div>Thank you, $POST[firstname], for your message! A Kelly Country representative will contact you as soon as possible.";
echo "Your e-mail address is: $POST[email].";
echo "Your message was: ";
echo "$_POST[comments] </div>";

It's part of a larger block but I'm trying to use html to format the text that gets echoed to the browser. The problem is that if I try to put id's within an element and then target that element and id with CSS, I get an error - e.g

echo "<div id="confirm">Thank you,

Does this mean that it's not possible to use the id or class elements within php? I mean I'm able to target just a div or p tag and then format these with CSS - it's just when I try to use id or class that the problem occurs.

Can someone help out here?

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm still getting the following errors:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ';' in /home/httpd/html/kellycountry/officelink/corporate/formSentConfirm.php on line 123

This is the code with the backslash before the id name and I also tried it with the backslash before the quote marks, but I'm still getting the error.

echo "Your e-mail address is: $POST[email].";
echo "Your message was:";
echo "$_POST[comments] </div>";

Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

You're still missing some slashes...

(My slashes are going the wrong direction beccause this forum is stripping them out...use them going in the correct direction)

echo "<div id=/"confirm/"><p>Thank you, <b>$_POST[firstname]</b>, for your message!<br /> A Kelly Country representative will contact you as soon as possible.</p>";

Sometimes I'll just use single quotes instead of slashed double quotes if it won't affect any of the output working properly...

The same line could be written in these ways:

echo "<p id=/"comment/">$_POST[comments] </p></div>"; 

echo "<p id='comment'>$_POST[comments] </p></div>"; 

echo "<p id=/"comment/">".$_POST['comments']."</p></div>";

I used the single quotes and it's worked for me. I'm not sure why the double quotes and backslashes didn't work though - I did it exactly the way you did.
