[Resolved] Something not working here!!

Hey,

I have this SQL on my page:

SELECT *
FROM ipals_members LEFT JOIN ipals_main_img ON ipals_members.m_id = ipals_main_img.m_id
WHERE m_age >= '$agefrom' AND m_age <= '$ageto'
GROUP BY ipals_members.m_id

and i have the users name, country, age and profile image displayed.

I have 2 members set up right now just for testing. Its showing the first member fine. Info and the image. BUT.

the next user is having their info shown, and the NO IMAGE in place of the photo as there hasnt been an image uploaded. But when you hover over the [View Profile] link. User A, has their user number show which will pull up all their info ect. But user B has an empty ?member_id

its getting all the info including the member_id if i add a photo. But thats not good for those who might not want to add a photo.

Any suggestions on how to correct this?

when using a join, you should reference which tables the data is coming from by using an alias:

SELECT *
FROM ipals_members as ipm LEFT JOIN ipals_main_img as imi USING(m_id)
WHERE ipm.m_age >= '$agefrom' AND ipm.m_age <= '$ageto'
GROUP BY ipm.m_id

try and post the results...

Hey there,

Still learning so bare with me!

Ok, it didnt change anything which i guess is a good sign im some respects. But it still doesnt put the member_id with the members "view profile" link.

I was thinking it had something to do with the fact that the SQL isnt finding anything in the ipals_main_img table and so isnt pulling it. But all the other info is working!! And the profiles with an image added DO display the member_id.

Its kinda annoying, cos all the info apart from that ones member id is being displayed.

Any other ideas?

One thing i think i need to point out, although im thinking you saw. I have m_id in both of my tables. But it does not affect the others!!!!

Im not sure what that is!! Sorry, using Dreamweaver and Interakt products, so bypassed the learning part! lol

print_r($array) will print out everything in your array....wrapping that with <PRE> tags will make the output more readable.

also, when doing joins on tables that may contain the same field names, it could help to explicitly select the fields you want from the specific tables instead of doing a select * .....

Thanks for the not using * suggestion.

I also (from the main table) changed the m_id to member_id using m_id as member_id.

It worked and now all the member id's are showing, even if the user hasnt uploaded a pic!
