Help with MySQL and PHP Coding

Hi,

I am designing and developing a Senior Citizen website.

On the side of the page there's a section called "News" and under that right now is the menu for the day you are viewing it on.

I need to create an admin area for the staff to insert the meals. However, each week repeats itself every 4 weeks. So whatever is on the menu this week, will be the same in 4 weeks.

I have the table set up with the fields:

day (the day the meal is being served, its' the PK)
main (main dish)
side (side dish)
vege (vegetable)

The code I have right now is pulling the row that has todays date as the day.

I have no idea how to start the code for a form so that the staff person inserting it can insert it twice so that it comes up on both weeks. I hope I'm explaining this the right way.

Hi Laura,

The fact that the same menu appears every 4 weeks means that, really, you only need to store 4 weeks of data in total.

So why not just think about having the data referenced as 'week1', 'week2', 'week3' and 'week4'.

Then, you might only need one big data-entry form with every menu showing at the same time.

To get the correct week to show, merely set a baseline date and calculate the current week from that (if you need help making this calculation, come back).

Instead of inserting the menus multiple times, I think you should create two tables...

Table One: menus
menu_id
menu_title
menu

Table Two: menu_dates
menu_id
menu_date
menu_notes //used incase the menu

//changes for the week

This way if one of the menus would change, one update would fix the entire database....
