htmlentities() error. can i fix it?

hi,

i'm attempting to install a simple wiki on my site. the installation was very simple, but i get the following warning when i go to the url...
Warning: Wrong parameter count for htmlentities() in /home/www/dept-of-films/wiki/index.php on line 133

line 133 reads...
$filtered = stripslashes(htmlentities("\n\n".$raw,ENT_NOQUOTES,"UTF-8"));

sadly, i don't know anything about php, so i have no clue as to what may cause this warning. is this something that a completely php illiterate person such as myself can fix? any help would be appreciated.

What version of PHP are you using? The third parameter isn't available in v. < 4.1.0.

thanks a lot for the reply, that shed some light on the issue.
it appears that my hosting company is using v. 4.0.6. :bemused:
is it possible for me to re-write that line to make it compatible with the older version or am i simply going to have to try and convince my hosting provider to update the version of php they have installed on the server?

[edit] i simply removed the third parameter. that seems to have corrected the problem, but is not have the reference to UTF-8 encoding going to end up causing problems?

I don't know enough about character sets to advise you on that, beyond trying it without the third parameter to see if it will work with what data you have. Some of the users' notes in the manual may also help.

But first I'd try to get your provider to update PHP. Version 4.0.6 is damn near ancient. They should install either 4.3.11 or 5.04 (the latest). There are a lot of changes to v. 4, especially at 4.2 and 4.3 that could cause you problems similar to what you're having now.

P.S. It might help to mention "better security in the newer versions."

yeah, i'll see if i can get my host to upgrade - that would be best for everyone. but either way, thanks a lot for your responses... it really helped my out!
