modyfing php.ini

I'm trying to make some changes to php.ini but they don't seem to be reflected when I call phpinfo();

I've modified the php.ini file, and tried the ini_set(option,value); and neither seem to have made any difference? What am I doing wrong.

Nope I haven't, I'm going to do that by restarting, but in the future what's the better way?

Also I changed display_errors and restarted and according to php_info() it's not set to the value I set it to.

there is no better way. if you make a change to your php.ini file you need to restart the server. the server reads your php.ini file when it starts up.

just to clarify terminology here. You need to restart your apache server. Restarting your physical server will do this, but it's not necessary.

Depending on your setup, a command like:

/etc/init.d/httpd restart

might do it.

Also can try --

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl restart

for default apache install

Hello all,
Im having the same problems with the php.ini file.
No matter what changes i make the php.ini file they will not show up in phpinfo(). I have restarted the computer and the web server, but still nothing changes.

Im runing Windows 2000 server, Apache2, and PHP 5.

Im starting wonder if it is even using php.ini file and just using a set of default peramiters.

Any Ideas guys?

Are you sure that the php.ini file you're editing is the one actually being used?

Check phpinfo() for:
Configuration File (php.ini) Path

your right php.ini path was pointed to c:\winnt dir, so i copyed it over to the winnt dir and now phpini reflects the changes i made.

why is looking there? i added the php dir to system path.
i did have one problem setting up the server.

in the php install.txt file it says to put a entry in the apache config file
PHPIniDir "C:\php"
but everytime i put this the config file Apache will not start.
system log says it returns a error code 1

is this why its looking to the winnt dir?

Did you install PHP using the zip package, and what version of PHP and Apache is installed?

It was a zip file, i unziped to root, c:\php, and followed the install.txt on manual installation.
im using PHP 5.0.4 and Apache 2.0.54

it was the PHPIniDir "C:\php" entry, i was able to put it in the right spot and now phpinfo says c:\php for the php path
