mkdir problem - help!

I have been using the mkdir() command in a script for the past week. Everything seemed to be working fine. Now, I get these error message:

Warning: mkdir(): open_basedir restriction in effect.

Help! What is this "open_basedir restriction"?

This script was working fine last week. What gives?

It's a security thing. PHP is prolly running in "safe mode".
Are you using a real domain name or a temporary subdomain provided by the host. Some hosting companies will do this for the latter. If not, contact the host.

Contacting my host. Looks like they configured PHP5 over the weekend.
