Hi,
The ?n=boat.jpg part is the section which gives a variable to the page to be loaded.
So.. In the page you might have
$insertfile = $_GET['n'];
and further down in the part where the person is creating a link for the image, they might have placed
<img src="$insertfile">
which on the page would result in
<img src="boat.jpg">
