[Resolved] Apache "ExpiresActive On"

Want to stop the IE flicker on my CSS link:backgrounds as described by Dean.

I've tried mixing and matching his pieces of code in my .htaccess to no avail.

When I put the main snippet:

ExpiresActive On
ExpiresDefault A18000
ExpiresByType image/gif A2592000
ExpiresByType image/jpeg A2592000
ExpiresByType image/png A2592000

I get a 500 error. Any tips?

(Apache, Linux server. I don't know where/how to edit my httpd.config file.)

You loaded the module

LoadModule expires_module modules/mod_expires.so

as mentioned on Dean's page?

Right, I tried mixing-and-matching the three snippets he posted: including that line.

Doesn't work.

Perhaps it's because I'm using just .htaccess instead of the httpd.config file?

Erm, who's hosting your website? What operating system is it hosted on?

Operating System: Linux
Apache v1.3.33 (Unix)
PHP v4.3

yeah your loadmodule and addmodule lines must be in httpd.conf. if its in .htaccess you will just get a 500 error. you'll have to ask your host to install it.

Anyway. End of story.

i see the guy said, "*If you do not have access to the Apache configuration file then the code above will also work if included in your .htaccess file."
and those lines being
ExpiresActive On
ExpiresDefault A18000
ExpiresByType image/gif A2592000
ExpiresByType image/jpeg A2592000
ExpiresByType image/png A2592000

but the module still must be loaded in httpd.conf. since all the modules like expires, are loaded when the apache server is first started or restarted. so if they arent loaded then, theres no having them.
