creating dynamic page based on dropdown selection?

I'm using Dreamweaver, but I believe this is a general PHP/MySQL question.

I have a table, with 4 fields: id, year, car_make, car_model.

The data looks like this:

1 1992 Honda Civic
2 1994 Ford Probe GT
3 1999 Audi S4
4 2002 Porsche 959

On my web page, I have a drop down list that's propogated automatically with the "car_model" field entries which are pulled from that table. So when I click the down arrow, I see Civic, Probe GT, S4 and 959.

What I can't figure out is the following: When I click on "Probe GT" for example, I want to be taken to a blank page that has placeholders for year, car_make and car_model that get filled in automatically with the year, car_make and car_model based on the car I chose from the drop down list.

I'm thinking (in theory) that when I click on "Probe GT", I could pull the unique ID number (2) and take that to the next webpage. Then on that page, have a query which shows the fields for the record with that unique ID.

Hi,

Yes, you could use mysql_query() etc. to extract the rows, and loop through to build the options using the value attribute for the id ...

<select name="id">
<option value="1">Civic<option>
<option value="2">GT<option>
... etc.
</select>

When you send the form, it's the value ($_GET['id'] = 1, say) that get's sent, not the text (Civic).

One 'slicker' possibility would be to use the onchange() attribute of the select tag itself to go 'straight' to the target page. For example ...

<select name="id" onchange="location.href='blank.php?id=' + this.options[this.selectedIndex].value;">
