Need direction!

Hi everyone, I am new to this board and have very little PHP knowledge. I have done a few tutorials and love the power and functionality of this language.

I need to create a form in php that will allow each member of my site to add/update/delete data in predetermined tables. Then I want to take that file and display it as their personal page.

i.e. in one table they can add/update/delete any of their engine mods...in another table they add/update/delete any interor mods....etc

What is the best and easiest way to go about this? If anyone could help get me point in the right direction that would be great. Tutorials or anything would be a great help! I have tried seaching but not really sure of a few things.

Tackle this one thing at a time...

First work on building an authentication system. This could even involve building database and validation classes.

Once you've created the shell, you can focus on creating the forms and form processing to work as you'd like.

I have a login already built and functioning. I have a form built but is there a way I can use flat files for this or not? I dont' think I can because I don't think you can edit a flat file.

So I have the form built right now. I just help from the form on, and if I need to use a db instead of flat files then I will have to redo the form and alter my approach.

I really really want to learn how to do this.

If you look at the section under the title modifications...that is what I want to make dynamic so each member can add/update/delete certain mods on the car and have it look like it does here >>> EXAMPLE

I'd recommend going the route of the database rather than the flat file. Just my preference. You will have more control is some ways.

You should certainly figure out what kind of database you will be working with and how to connect to it. There are tutorials every where for that kind of thing.

Another solution would be to download/install an open source web application like Drupal or something...but you will still need to modify it. Learning how they do things will probably take you longer than doing it yourself (if you have a knack for learning these things).

I know of an open source product that could really help you out...but it's not ready yet. 😉

I will be working with a SQL database. Could you at least direct me to some good references or tutorials that may aid me in getting this project completed?

The database isn't an issue for me its just making the forms to add/update/delete data from a database table.
