How to display users based on online status?

Hi,

I have a web page that lists about 100 Yahoo Instant Messenger users and shows their online/offline status with a Yahoo icon using code from Yahoo.

I would like to be able to move people who are online at the top of the page, with offline people below that.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a way to do this with PHP?

Without seeing your code or the Yahoo code, I think I'd start with sort().

The Yahoo code is:

where "user" is whatever the person's Yahoo ID is. The image changes on the Yahoo side of things from off to on depending on the user's status.

As far as my code, it is just regular tables organizing these images, I have no coding per say at this point.

I will look at the sort function, but I'm not sure it will do much good if I have to call the online status from Yahoo somehow.

I have seen other web sites do this, but of course you can't see their code.

Yeah, if that's the only thing Yahoo can provide to determine whether a user is currently online or not that's not much to go on. Obviously, that's just a dynamically generated image and I don't know of any way to "parse" that image. I wonder if Yahoo has any other tools that can be used? Anybody else know?

Since my last post I did a search for "Yahoo status checker php" and found a number of web sites with various code fragments that are supposed to display online or offline status. From there I think I can figure out how to sort it so the online ones are on top (if status='online' etc.).

However, none of the code works when I run it and I can't figure out why. I can read the code and it seems to be complete as to this one issue, but all I get is a blank page no matter which one I try. One displays "unknown," but that's the closest I get to any kind of results.
