Hey guys .. I just wanted to know how does sites like this and others use member login ?

I know that they type in the username and password and query the db to see if they are valid.. but what happens when the username and password is correct ?

Do i use sessions and do somehting like this ?

$_SESSION['loggedin'] = true; ? on every page for members only?

Yep. That's pretty much how it's usually done. Generally, the way I do it is to include a file at the top every page that's supposed to be protected and check to see that some session varible is set. If not, I bounce them to a login page.
