[Resolved] Regular Expressions

Well I've been reading, and reading and to be frank I'm having a terrible time with expressions. Theres just so much, I can't find what I need.
Heres what I am doing. I have many entries using the setup:

name - number

Seems simple, but it's driving me simple. Before I was splitting it using $title = preg_split('/ /', $title['0'], '-1');
but then I needed a name with a space in it! :eek: Doing as it was supposed to, it split the first space and now I get half a name when I'm all done.

What I need is to chop off the ' - number' part, so it leaves me with the name! Please, lead me in the right direction.

$name = trim($name);
$number = trim($number);

or simply

list($name) = split("-", $line);
$name = trim($name);

Regular expressions are way overkill for something as simple as this. [man]explode[/man] would be plenty. But if you really want to use regular expressions....

$name = preg_replace('/\\s*-.*/', '', $line);

Ha that was easier! Someone here pointed me to expressions earlier and I'm glad they were wrong. Thanks!
