Displaying last three records

Hello,

I want to display the last three records that are in a database so that I can show the latest three articles which have been posted.

When i try and do a mysql_num_rows of a query it doesnt return the last record it just returns 76 when there are 82 records in the DB.

How would I go about getting the last three article ID's posted and displaying them?

I have 3 PHP books and i cant see anything in them that helps, i may just be blind.

If your sql statement is returning 76 records, and you think there are 82, you must have some condition in the sql that is filtering the resultset.

Assuming your id field is auto-incremented, you can get the last three records like this

SELECT * FROM `tablename` WHERE 1 ORDER BY `id` DESC LIMIT 3

What determines that they are 'the last three rows' ... are they just the last three you entered, or are you sorting on any particular field.

For example, if table_id is an auto_increment field then ...

SELECT *
FROM table
ORDER BY table_id DESC
LIMIT 0, 3

... will do the trick.

Thanks for that! I have managed to put this together:

	$r = mysql_query ($q);
	$row = mysql_fetch_array($r, MYSQL_ASSOC);
	mysql_close();

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($r)) {

But it only displays records 80 and 81 but not 82 and i know that 82 does exsist... is it somethign to do with the $row?

that's probably because arrays start at 0 (for record 1) so record 82 is actually listing as 81

} 
mysql_close();

</table>

... and see what you get.

Well, in your attempt, you had the line ...

$row = mysql_fetch_array($r, MYSQL_ASSOC);

... before the loop, and without being echo-ed. This was the 'missing' record.
