well-formated record pagination

I have seen several different ways of navigating through records; some good, some bad.

I would like some help trying to format my record navigation by page like the following:

<<Back 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 [10] Next>>

Of coarse, if the visitor was viewing page one the back button and the number 1 would be grayed out and non-linked. Likewise, if someone was on the last page (in this case 10) that number and "next" would be grayed out as well as the non-linked.

At this point in time, I only know how to paginate by record and not by page. Any and all help is much appreciated!

there is a very good tutorial on this site for that. have a look here and search for prev/next scripts. Or else you can search the forums. About a year ago, a long thread was started called something like:

prev/next. Why do you use such complex code

I will view that tutorial first thing tomarrow morning. I believe that usability is very important and I would like to make my record navigation as clear and easy to use as possible.
