[Resolved] text align with image

Help. I am trying to display text from my database on the right side of my image (also taken from the database). Right now, it's only showing one line of text centered with the image. I want several rows down the side of the image. Can anybody help please?

Ideally you'd use css to do this.

Else you could use tables where the image is in one cell, and the text in the other.

The simplest way is to use align atribute

<img src="something.png" align="left">

but as the w3schools say, it's

Deprecated. Use styles instead

I would go with either CSS or tables...however, I don't know CSS positioning that well, so I'll post a table example.

Using tables have a drawback though. What if there's more text then can be placed on the right side of the picture? In table it'll be still written in that cell, not using full width of the page (space beneath picture will be empty).

Absolutely right. Which is why CSS is preferred (besides that bein more versatile when changing pages)

<img src="whatever.jpg" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="left">

And place it before any text? Wouldn't it take you where you want to go?

I'm not sure align would work...plus it's been depracated because it's not part of XHTML 1.1 standards. Technically, you'd be using a non-existant attribute. I only threw out the table idea because I don't know much about positioning objects with CSS; I thought if cbesh2 didn't know either, and he only had a small amount of text, he could use my table example.

Anyway.. The best option would be to start studying a bit of CSS.. But I must admit.. For small amounts of text I still use tables too. It is just so much mre stable most of the time.

This is the css you would need for it to work:

IMG.right
{
float: right;
margin: 5pt;
}

IMG.left
{
float: left;
margin: 5pt;
}

which I am using

What other idea of yours did I steal? I'm just trying to take a more active role in the community...

Anyway, I think what you did on your site is just what cbesh2 needs. I'm sure that CSS will work just fine. I use tables regardless but again, it's because I never learned positioning with CSS, and frankly, I don't understand all that pixel and pica and percent and whatever other measurement systems computers use.

Yeah, I know you had the idea first; I just wanted to give him some actual HTML code he might be able to use.

Perhaps after my PHP course I'll take a CSS course. Who knows? Maybe it'll help me understand what I don't.

Thank you everybody for your help. Both suggestions sound like they will solve my problem; however, with me being a newbie, I think I'm going to try using tables first since CSS are a little over my head. As of now I won't have a large amount of text where the white space needs filling in (a great point). But who knows? I may run into this problem down the road. CSS sound like something I shouldn't definately try to learn. Again, thanks.

Allright; that's a good choice instead of playing with what you don't know. But CSS is something good to learn; perhaps I'll go check out a book on it over the weekend.
