Here is my situation, I am building a PHP site which must allow users to download PDF documents. The documents are saved on the same network as the webserver. I need the documents to be accessed from the internet (the webserver is, fileserver is not).

Is it possible for PHP to use the network location of the file to allow downloading or will a copy of the file have to be on the webserver?

You can have PHP read the file on the file server and then pass the bits back to the browser who requested the file. The file stays on the file server and the web server ends up reading it and passing it back to the browser (if that makes sense).

Can ya point me in the right direction of what functions or methods I'm going to need to use to get that to work?
