Differences between how Firefox and Internet Explorer handle tables?

We've run into this:

--always seems to look fine in IE, but in Firefox the left column resizes on refresh--seems to disregard height attributes....

I know that Firefox adheres to stricter HTML standards (W3C) than IE, but honestly this isn't an example of lazy I-Only-Test-In-One-Browser coding...

Anyone know a quick and dirty workaround for this?

FF looks better than IE to me.

IE has a chunk of the border missing on the middle of the form background.

I'd start by getting the page to validate, then go from there. I think at least part of the problem would be cleared up by that.

--good debugging tips, btw----echoing out mysql queries into html comments WOULD help a great deal...
