Last Modified

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way to find out the last time a file was uploaded. So, let's say I have a Word file on my computer that was last modified 2 months ago. I need to upload said Word file using PHP and I need PHP to find out when it was last modified. If I try something like filemtime(), it tells me that it was last modified the exact second it was uploaded. Is there anyway to do this? Thanks very much in advance!

not 100%, but it makes sense to me, that if your dealing with uploaded files they in fact did not even exist on the server untill they where uploaded. so the last modified date will always start with the date it arrived on the server.

That is my fear as well. Do you think there is a possibility that a file will "carry along" the last modified field from when it was not on the server?

As the remote server can not access your local PC (talk about security holes!), you'll need something client-side to do the trick. This would lead you down the path of Javascript, ActiveX, VBScript, etc., none of which are 100% compatible/accepted/allowed with all browsers/platforms/users.

Hmm, not a bad idea, I will have to look into this. Any idea where to find something like that written (preferably) in Javascript? Thanks!
