is there any way for php to send messages to me thru AIM?

I've been kicking around the AIM site and googling like mad but I can't seem to find info on how one might send an instant message to an AIM user. AIM.com says something about macromedia central working with AIM but that doesn't help me. I also found snips of PHP code to send to a yahoo account but no luck. AIM site also says something like 'DEVELOPER INFO COMING SOON' but has nothing yet.

I've also searched this site for postings regarding instant messaging and didn't find much.

I'm guessing it might involve opening a socket connection to either my machine or the AOL site. spoofing an AIM client to the AOL site might be tricky. come to think of it, AIM clients might also recognize spoofers and have hack protections.

ultimately, i just want to notify myself when one particular user (ip address) access my site. i was hoping to put a bit of code in the main application that would notify me if this person comes around. since email might be a bit slow, i want instant notification.

any hints, tips or code would be much appreciated.

I can force AIM to open an IM window and type out the message, but as for sending it I dunno.

I am sure you can figure out how to get it to auto-submit when a specific IP hits your site. If not, I can help.

thanks for that link info. i had seen that somewhere else too but it doesn't really help because i want to be able to send myself a message without the knowledge of the user. the ultimate goal is a 'hack attempt' notifier. any hacker worth his salt would obviously never send me a message about it 😉

Anywho, I get what your saying now.

I woudl think you would need to install AIM on the server, since you want the server to send you the IM, not the client.

But then it still comes down to: How do you make the send button active?

My guess: You'd need to write some sort of shell script (or something) to input tab then enter to send the message from the server.

But hey, I use windows at home full time, so what the hell do I know about making it work on a remote system that's OS is foriegn to me.

Just thought I would attempt...

thanks for the tip. yeah, i'm using linux. i think AIM exists for linux...maybe there's a server app? i'll go look.

in the meantime, i have it sending a text message to my phone. that's working quite nicely. t-mobile let's you email a text message to their customers. it arrives almost instantly.
