Hi, I’m new here.. just wanna ask if anyone could help me here. Ok, here’s my problem.

I plan to retrieve images from database.. and arrange the images (let say I have 7 images) into 2 rows . in which the first row has 5 images and the second row has 2 images. How can I do that using PHP coding? Is it something to do with counter?
And I’m using phpMyAdmin as the database. I think that’s the purpose of phpMyAdmin. (correct me if I’m wrong). I’m not sure. ..and I’m only browsing my webpage on local intranet.

Plenty of ways to do it...

You could get your images into an array (from your query) and simply do it this way...

<tr><td>$img[0],$img[1],$img[2],$img[3],$img[4]</td></tr>
<tr><td>$img[5],$img[6]</td></tr>

certainly with html formatting and such...and it depends upon what you really want to do.

Yes, phpmyadmin is for that purpose.

Assuming that the path to the image is being stored along with the image name, this should work, although the formatting is not exaclty correct (it lacks colspan attributes) it should give you an idea of how to do what you want:

with the php coding, that's all i need to do? i mean, what about phpmyAdmin? anything i need to configure in phpmyAdmin? where do i store my images before they are retrieved? do i need to put a path in phpMyAdmin for the images?

I'd store it as a variable some place and call it up as needed...you don't really need phpmyadmin for that. Or, perhaps you might store 'settings' in a table, but this isn't necessary.

how do you call it up? let say, i put my 7 images in a folder named "images".. and then.. how do i proceed from there? sorry for the trouble.

Just for clarification, you are using MySQL as your database, and php as the language to access the database. PhpMyAdmin is simply a tool written in PHP to access your MySQL database. That's why you don't need to use phpMyAdmin to run Kudose's code, because you are using straight PHP to access it for you.

although i understand what you are trying to say, i just don't know how to use kudose's coding. i mean, all this while, i use phpmyadmin to insert new tables... i thought it's kinda like MySQL database.

that means i'm wrong all this while.. that's why i can only retrieve one image from phpmyadmin.. i inserted an image path in phpmyadmin. and then retrieve it by using the "src" code. i know something wrong somewhere..but i don't know how to correct it and get the initial result that i wanted..? 😕

What is the structure of your database? That is, can you tell us the names of each table and column (field) in your database? You can access this information from phpMyAdmin using the "Structure" tab for each table.

hmm...ok. here it goes.

my database name is pams.

there are 3 tables. but, the other two are not in used. so don't bother about it. the other two are just for fun..i created it for fun..trial and error kinda thing.

anyway, the three tables are com_list, news and pic.

the "pic" table is the one i just created. i'm using this table as a try out place.

inside the "pic" tables, i have 7 images. with the path:

images/charm.gif
images/charm1.gif
images/charm2.gif.... and so on.

correct me if i'm wrong in the aforementioned stuff.

so, what am i going to do? i have to create a php page using dreamweaver, right? and then.. that's my problem..don't know how to proceed.

Your not doing anything wrong by storing data in your database with phpMyAdmin.

What your doing wrong is using phpMyAdmin to retrieve it.

phpMyAdmin is just a 3rd party graphical user interface (GUI) for the MySQL database system.

You can keep storing the info like you have been until you learn about MySQL syntax and PHP functions.

The best place in the world to start is the http://www.php.net website.

You can type in functions in the search bar and it will tell you everything about it plus user contributed comments that help. Even if you don't know the function name, PHP is good at having relevant function names.

So lets say you wanted to use mysql to query your database. Go to PHP.net and type in query MySQL. You'd get a list of functions, first being mysql_query, which is what you need.

In my opinion, everything in programming when your new is trial and error.

Just my 2 cents.

Dreamweary will do you more harm than good when it comes to PHP. It is just a bloated WYSIWYG editor.

Hmm.. let say, I recreate a new database in phpMyAdmin.

How do I proceed with my next step after creating a new database? It seems that it’s not right for me to use phpMyAdmin to retrieve the images.. does it mean even if, I create new database in phpMyAdmin, I can’t retrieve images from there?

Ok now, if from scratch, I have phpMyAdmin, Dweaver, and the 7 images. How do I retrieve the images and arrange them? Please help… I don’t know my question here makes sense or not. Correct me if I’m wrong.

what you have done is created a new MySql database with phpMyAdmin (just a tool written in PHP). it's fine to use phpMyAdmin to create your database, tables, etc. in fact it's a good way to learn about MySql. But to display your images on a web page you're going to need to learn how to connect to your database using PHP code.

take the advice from Kudose. check out php.net and query for MySql. There are examples for connecting to your database there you can use, or use the example Kudose provided.

I was just about to say the same thing everyone else is - phpMyAdmin is not a database in and of itself. It's a tool written in php to admin MySQL (hence it's name). To run the code, just type it into a text file, save it, and run it on your webserver.

Although, no offense, but from the looks of things you need to get a better grasp on what a server, a database, HTML, and PHP are.
