A little help please

Ok, I'm pretty new to Writing PHP and I'm currently making a website for a team I'm on, I've decided to go away from the standard HTML and go into PHP. I've been learning PHP by going though the sites IPB code and learning from handling this code.
What I want to do is make a integrated system. where you can log-in though the main site, news will be pulled from the same forum as it is for the forum, the forum will appear inside the main area and Have a simple staff page. The version of IPB that I am using is 2.0.4 and I am using Dreamweaver for my creator. the layout of my site is as the following.

Forums-Domain--->forum
Portal-Domain

If you have any tips for a Newb at PHP aiming for big goals, please give them to me.

P.S. If possible I'd like to use put in any new SQL stuff.

P.S.S. I can't give you a link because the site isn't going up til the Leader of the team say it does and the site is done.

tip: learn to crawl before you walk. getting the basics down before trying to build full blown applications will ensure they are less buggy and easier to maintain.

You really should start out, with a free open source CMS system
The big ones are Mambo and PHP-Nuke.
I prefer the smaller ones, with flat file data storage ( without SQL )

There are 100reds of good CMS - website Content Managment Systems out for free.
Yours would only be number #101. And we do not even know if it would work.
And certainly not if it would make anything better than the others.
Is it worth the trouble.

If I need a car, I have plenty of Japanese, Korean, Chinese and European models to choose from.
My first choice, wouldnt be to start building my own.
I am crazy sometimes, but not THAT CRAZY 😃 😃

Everything big starts out being small.
In end a great dream can come true.
But the road is long ..... towards your goal.
Not even experienced PHP programmers ( and there are several around here! )
would start such a project you are talking about .
Maybe because they ARE experienced and know what it takes 😉

This is what will happen, when you use SQL, more specific MySQL.

It is not a php.exe trouble.
It is another program that has got problems mysql.exe

This is what will happen, when you use SQL, more specific MySQL.

what are you talking about? on many occasions it is more efficient, secure, and often easier to impliment a database rather than a flat file system. im not saying flat files dont have there place, but you try building a descent sized searchable data structure without a database.

I guess you're right.
I'm going to try and adapt IPB v2.x.x to php-Nuke and modifiy the php-nuke to get what I kinda want.

Oh, and halojoy. When I got a car I just built one.
