Print Ad Builder?

Hello folks,

I am about to start work on a web site for a client and they have asked me to build a tool which would allow their retailers to create print ads from templates provided on their web site. The idea is to allow the dealer to select from 3 or 4 different templates, edit some text (perhaps dealer specific pricing, product details, etc.), enter the dealer name and contact details, and upload a logo (or perhaps retrieve the dealer info and logo from a database). Then the ad creator would provide a preview of the ad and allow the dealer to download the ad as a print ready pdf file which he/she can then send to the newspaper/magazine, etc.

Is the above doable/feasible in PHP?

Does any code exist already which could be used or modified to fit?

Many publications have different specs for their ads, for example a 1/4 page ad in one magazine may be larger than 1/4 page ad in another or it might be a different aspect ratio. How can we take these into account so that the resulting pdf files are properly formatted?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Possible, yes (extensions exist for linking with graphics and PDF libraries (you may not need the graphics libraries: a low-res PDF could be the preview)). Feasible ... I'd be reluctant to give a yes/no on this without talking over the requirements with the client more, but I don't see why not.

I don't know of any existing packages that do this.
