[Resolved] Whats wrong with this code?

I'm getting this error and I don't know why.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING in /home/eagle/www/header.php on line 32

And this is line 32:

echo "<a href=\"http://\" . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . \"file.php\">Link</a>";

Missing closing ):

dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] .

And your line should probably be:

echo "<a href=\"http://" . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']) . "file.php\">Link</a>";

Hi. No it wasn't the closing bracket. I noticed that when I read your reply.

Something is wrong with my code with regards to quotation marks, but I can't figure it out.

you are escaping the " marks that are supposed to terminate the echo string.
echo "<a href=\"http://\" . $SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . \"file.php\">Link</a>";
should be
echo "<a href=\"http://" . $SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($SERVER['PHP_SELF']) . "file.php\">Link</a>";

My reply answers your question. If you compare your line and mine, you'll see two small differences between our lines. I'll even put them above and below eachother for you:

Mine:
echo "<a href=\"http://" . $SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($SERVER['PHP_SELF']) . "file.php\">Link</a>";

Yours:
echo "<a href=\"http://[/b]" . $SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($SERVER['PHP_SELF'] . [/b]"file.php\">Link</a>";
